ERCS BRANCH OFFICES COLLECT 20 MILLION BIRR
The Ethiopian Red Cross Society (ERCS) recognizes its Branch Offices for their achievements in domestic resource mobilization. The recognized Branch Offices have managed to collect 20 million birr from the sale of coupons in three months.
During the recognition ceremony, ERCS Secretary General Meshesha Shewarega (PhD) hailed the branch offices for their tremendous contributions towards the self-financing initiatives of the Society.
The Secretary General says the Society’s domestic resource mobilization endeavors are both strategy and development agendas devised to capacitate ERCS to be a self-reliant National Society capable of financing its own humanitarian activities.
The Society further plans to collect two billion birr through membership & volunteers’ expansion campaign set to commence by January 2020.
President of ERCS Abera Tolla on his part acknowledges the Branch Offices’ commitment adding such efforts have to be strengthened to live up to Society’s aspirations of reaching out to a large number of people seeking humanitarian assistance.
Strong partnership with the media and art people has also been emphasized as a crucial way to enhance visibility and mobilize more resources from domestic means.
Branch Office representatives attached importance to capacity development so as to augment domestic resource mobilization efforts.
The landscape for financing humanitarian works has drastically changed over the last years owing to the global financial crisis, donor fatigue, business sector prices and the emergency occurrence which makes innovative resource mobilization an inevitable way out.
